It’s been just over two years since Climateworks Centre (CWC) first came to us with their groundbreaking Natural Capital Measurement Catalogue project. Which saw us transform a dense spreadsheet of natural capital measurement data into a user-friendly online catalogue. But this was just the start of our journey with CWC. As we complete a full development of naturalcapitalmeasurement.org, replete with a Welcome animation, tooltips and new page layouts, we’re celebrating not just the evolution of a website, but a successful working relationship across timezones.

Web development
Having built the first site from an excel sheet, we were deeply familiar with the structure, layout and challenges of the foundational data. We had already begun to compile potential future upgrades during the first iteration of the site - and so when Climateworks approached us to work on Version 2, we were ready to dive right in.
Throughout the development process, the Yoke team demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, overcoming multiple challenges to successfully implement the new website features. Their professionalism, creativity, and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions made the collaboration a seamless and enjoyable experience.
Extensive user testing by CWC had made it clear that the site needed to be easier to navigate, especially for brand new users and those unfamiliar with the concept of natural capital. We knew that CWC’s priority was ensuring that everyone who visited the site could clearly and easily access the information they needed based on their level of expertise.
We implemented a welcome pop-up which guides visitors to an introductory animation explaining the concept of the site, a direct link to the ‘help and glossary’ section or the option to quickly ‘dive right in’ for those regular users.
We’ve also included tool tips and deep links throughout the site so users can access immediate explanations and definitions, as well as being able to shortcut their way through the site based on their own unique requirement.
We’ve also made results pages more accessible, by having certain differing types of data viewable at the same time. This allows users to more easily compare their different data sets on a single page, rather than jumping between the two, adding clarity and a smoother user experience.
This is just a few of the evolved and additional functionalities we have developed for version 2 of the site, making the most of the opportunity of growth and listening to the user feedback to drive efficiency, clarity and experience.
Our comprehensive understanding of Climateworks Centre’s goals for naturalcapitalmeasurement.org, as well as the original source data, meant we were uniquely positioned to process and act on user testing feedback. And help transform the catalogue into an even more accessible and useful resource for those working with natural capital.
